Claudio originated and hosted a very popular weekly Prime-Time Radio Show devoted to the Literary and Performance Arts, Claudio’s SpeakEasy and Radio Theatre: The Literary and All Else, on WCOM-FM in Carrboro / Chapel Hill, North Carolina from 2009 to January 2016. Claudio has a long and successful history in radio going back to the early 1970s. He first Co-Hosted the iconic “African Focus” on Shaw University’s 88.9 FM with their popular Host, Maxwell Elemuo, in Raleigh, N.C. and later took over as Host of the show himself when Maxwell returned to his native Africa. As the show continued to increase in popularity, Claudio changed it to: “International Focus” which was maintained for over a decade past his own tenure there of a little more than three years under the auspices of Carl Sanders, the radio station manager. In 1977 and 1978, during his Caribbean stint as Chef and Performer throughout the West Indies, Claudio was invited by famed Calypsonian, Paul Richards ~ (who enjoyed one of Claudio’s performances with Pianist Nat Blake at Bluebeard’s Castle / in the Pirate’s Cove Lounge there) to join him on his legendary “King Obstinate Calypso Show” on Radio One in St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands. During this time Claudio achieved considerable fame for being on air with The Caribbean Monarch of Calypso – King Obstinate, along with his own literary achievements on stages throughout the Virgin Islands under the honourary title of: “The African Poet” bestowed upon him by his many followers there as a result of his own childhood in South Africa. He was also known as “The Poet Claudio” and in 1985, during a brief return to the Islands from America, he hosted his own show on Radio WGOD in St. Thomas, along with occasional appearances on Radio One, where he was still remembered as their African Poet. The respect of his peers in the arts, and public overall, for his extraordinary skills as a broadcaster and both a writer and performer of his own original works follows Claudio to this day.
